Tex. Occupations Code § 502.257: ISSUANCE OF LICENSE.

The executive council shall issue a license as a licensed marriage and family therapist associate or licensed marriage and family therapist, as appropriate, to an applicant who:

(1) complies with the requirements of this chapter;

(2) passes the licensing examination, unless the executive council exempts the person from the examination requirement; and

(3) pays the required fees.
